A lighthearted look at grandparenting and retirement

Little House on the Prairie Musical

image

For our Family, Friends and other Grandparents in America and Canada.

I recently received the below email message from Melanie, a visitor to our site from the USA.  The musical production she is working on, “The Little House on the Prairie”,  was my daughters’ favourite book series when they were growing up in the States.  When we moved to the UK, they continued to watch the TV series and our granddaughters grew to love The Little House as well. Unfortunately the boys  moved on to Star Wars, World of War Craft, Pokemon etc …

I do hope the play comes over to the UK eventually. Perhaps we can then win our younger grandsons over!

Melanie wrote:

Little House on the Prairie has remained one of the most popular and beloved celebrations of pioneering America since Laura Ingalls Wilder published the first book of her classic series 75 years ago. Now the inspirational stories cross into yet another frontier in an uplifting new musical. Melissa Gilbert, who we all knew as “Laura” for 10 years in the much-loved television series is now all grown up and playing “Ma.”

How can we improve The Grandparents’ Blog web site?

march 009 051 So far we have used our web site as a means of communicating “stuff” between our wide spread network of family and friends. Through our site, we have made new friends and our little circle has grown wider. From time to time we get heartfelt pleas and requests for advice from other grandparents who share their stories with us. Other than acting as a forum to share our readership’s ideas and experience, it is difficult for us to provide sound, sensible advice to assist those readers. In fact most legal and financial issues are way beyond our capability and best handled by experts.

One of our readers, Petra, has introduced her new blog site “Glorious Grandchildren” which aims to provide advice and information on the subject of grand-parenting and we are pleased to be able to exchange views and ideas between our respective sites.

You can reach Petra’s site at: http://www.gloriousgrandchildren.co.uk/

Our New Photo Gallery

I have replaced our blog site photo album content with all new photos in two new categories “My Floral Favourites” and “My Scenic favourites”. I will add more categories later and I will try to refresh the favourites as often as I can.  Ii love seeing other people’s favourites and I will add a guest category if if any are sent to us.

We did see a great collection of birds photographed in Mary Lennon Wylie’s back garden.  She sent us the link to her photos.  See Mary’s birds!

We have used NextGen to manage and present the Gallery of photos.  We think it works well but remembering how to configure it, when you don’t use it that often, is a challenge for an OAP!

We hope you enjoy these photos, almost all were taken by Connie, with one or two by John, Sue or Edna.
